Manchester-Liverpool Rail Line Shut After Car Crashes Onto Tracks in Salford

A suspected drunk driver was arrested after their car overturned on train tracks, causing significant damage and widespread travel disruption.

A car crashed onto railway tracks near the Regent Road roundabout in Salford early Friday morning, overturning and causing extensive damage to the railway and overhead electric cables.
The driver of the car, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, was arrested by Greater Manchester Police at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and a police cordon remains in place as emergency services and engineers work to remove the car and repair the damage.
Train services between Manchester and Liverpool, including those operated by Northern, TransPennine Express, and Transport for Wales, have been suspended, with the line expected to remain closed for most of the day.
Passengers have been advised to check with train operators for updates and plan alternative routes as significant delays and cancellations are anticipated.
