Manchester-Based Engineer Found Dead in Gurugram Hotel Jacuzzi

A sealed forensic probe with an autopsy ordered will determine whether medical factors explain the death.

Overview

  • Hotel staff discovered the man unconscious and floating in the room’s jacuzzi during late-night checks, and a doctor pronounced him dead on Monday, police said.
  • Authorities identified the deceased as Pranjil Pathak, an India-origin engineer who lived in Manchester and worked for a multinational R&D firm, and they have taken the body into custody.
  • Police say Pathak had returned from the UK on October 24, visited Rishikesh with a friend and then dropped the friend at Delhi’s IGI Airport before booking the Gurugram room for the night.
  • Investigators sealed the room, reviewed CCTV that showed no outsider entering and noted the door was locked from inside; they also recovered a strip of pills and have questioned family about possible ailments or medication.
  • Officials stress no foul play is currently suspected and say the autopsy and forensic analysis will be determinative, a process that could clarify whether health, drugs, or another cause led to the unexplained death.
