Manchester Airport Starts Terminal 3 Overhaul With New CGI and First Venues

The airport is reallocating space from the forthcoming Terminal 1 closure to expand Terminal 3 for earlier passenger benefits next year.

Overview

  • Construction is underway on the multi‑million‑pound upgrade of Terminal 3, with airport‑released images showing redesigned seating, shops and dining spaces.
  • The revamp will add about 40% more seating, a new passenger entrance and upgraded security equipment to improve the terminal experience.
  • Early next year will see the first openings, including Sporting Chance, a 469‑seat sports bar with airfield views, and Terracotta, an Italian restaurant operated by HMSHost UK of the Avolta group.
  • Terminal 2’s £1.3bn rebuild is in its final phase and slated to be fully open later in 2025, becoming the main hub for more than 70% of passengers.
  • Closure of Terminal 1 will unlock further Terminal 3 expansion, while Terminal 2’s remaining works include 13 flexible aircraft stands and a new security‑to‑departure link featuring a chandelier homage to Terminal 1.
