Man with History of Arrests Accused of Hate Crime in Grand Central Stabbing

Steven Hutcherson, recently released from jail, faces multiple charges after allegedly stabbing two teenage girls while making racially charged comments.

Steven Hutcherson, 36, is accused of stabbing two teenage girls at Grand Central Terminal on Christmas Day. The girls, visiting from Paraguay, were eating with their family when Hutcherson allegedly attacked them after making racially charged comments.
Hutcherson, who has a history of 17 prior arrests, was released from jail just two weeks before the incident. His charges have ranged from weapons possession to assault, and he has been classified by law enforcement as an 'emotionally disturbed person'.
During a November incident, Hutcherson allegedly threatened to shoot a man who tried to stop him from attacking a woman. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, harassment, and assault, but no gun was found at the scene.
Hutcherson's ex-girlfriend and her family had been granted an order of protection against him, citing his erratic behavior and threats. Despite this, he continued to violate the order, leading to further arrests.
Hutcherson now faces charges of attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, and a hate crime. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
