Man Suffering from Mental Illness Attacks Congressional Staffers with Baseball Bat

A man suffering from schizophrenia attacked two staffers in Rep. Gerry Connolly's office in Fairfax, Virginia.
The man, identified as Xuan Tran Pham, reportedly asked to speak to Connolly before committing the act of violence with a baseball bat.
The staffers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while Pham was taken into police custody.
Minutes before the attack, Pham allegedly chased a woman in his neighborhood while wielding a baseball bat and asked about her race.
The attack has prompted calls to improve security for lawmakers and their staff, especially at district offices outside of Washington, D.C.
