Overview
- Officials said a man stole a Cicero Fire Department ambulance from Loretto Hospital around 4 p.m. in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.
- A paramedic inside the vehicle jumped out about two blocks later as another paramedic immediately called 911.
- Police pursued across the West Side and briefly boxed in the ambulance near Jackson and Central before the driver rammed squad cars and an officer discharged a firearm with no reported hits.
- The chase ended near Cicero and Chicago avenues after crashes with multiple vehicles, including a marked CPD car, and the suspect tried to run away before being taken into custody.
- Police said the suspect was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, three officers and four civilians were hospitalized with crash injuries, the ambulance is being processed as a crime scene, and the suspect’s identity and charges have not been released.
