Police attempted to use a taser to subdue the man, but it was ineffective, leading to the use of a firearm when he continued to advance on officers.
The man sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Amart Furniture confirmed all employees were physically unharmed during the incident, with staff following safety protocols and securing themselves inside the building.
The Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
