Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Murdering FDNY EMT

Jose Gonzalez was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing Yadira Arroyo, a 14-year veteran of the Fire Department and mother of five, in 2017.
Gonzalez stole a man's backpack and jumped into the driver's seat of Arroyo's ambulance before backing over her and dragging her body across an intersection.
Gonzalez was convicted of first-degree murder in March 2018 after a month-long trial.
Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh expressed gratitude that Gonzalez will never threaten public safety again.
Arroyo was remembered as an extraordinary EMT who cared deeply for her patients.
