Overview

• Walter Gabriel Banegas, 35, was lifted into a LAM garbage truck when workers emptied the container during routine pickup in Nueva Córdoba on Saturday morning.
• The truck’s compaction cycle started automatically and it traveled several blocks along Avenida Vélez Sarsfield before cries from inside led workers and bystanders to halt the system.
• Police initiated an urgent rescue with the high‑risk unit DUAR and an ambulance from service 107, and a partial closure of the avenue was ordered to support the operation.
• Rescuers removed Banegas on a spinal immobilization board and transported him to Hospital Misericordia with multiple fractures and other trauma.
• Hospital officials report he is stable and under observation, and police say similar incidents have been detected during cold and rainy conditions.
