- Northumbria Police said the man in his 20s arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving has been released on bail until March 8.
- The collision was reported just after 1.40pm on December 10 on Market Crescent, where a car hit another vehicle before striking a house and tearing a hole in the brickwork.
- Two people were taken to hospital by road ambulance, one to Sunderland Royal Hospital and the other to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
- Police said the injuries were not believed to be life‑threatening, with the male casualty now discharged and the female casualty still receiving treatment.
- Police, ambulance crews and firefighters attended, the air ambulance was stood down at the scene, cutting gear was used to free a casualty, and the road later reopened after vehicle recovery.
