Man Killed in Chesterton Police Shooting on Gateway Boulevard

The Indiana State Police are leading the probe into the early morning shooting after scores of officers from local agencies secured the scene.

Overview

  • Chesterton Police were called to Gateway Boulevard at 8:06 a.m. Wednesday and engaged in a confrontation that resulted in a man being fatally shot.
  • Officers found the victim under a blood-stained sheet at the northeast corner of Gateway Boulevard and Matson Drive.
  • Investigators marked more than 50 evidence cones around shell casings and recovered a pistol in the middle of the street.
  • The Porter County Sheriff’s Office, Valparaiso Police, Porter Police and the Porter County prosecutor joined Chesterton and Indiana State Police at the scene.
  • A news conference is slated for 11:30 a.m. at the Chesterton Police Station, where authorities plan to update the public.
