Man Killed, Driver Injured in Four-Vehicle Crash on I-695 Inner Loop Near Perring Parkway

State police crash investigators are working to determine the cause of the chain-reaction collision.

  • Troopers were called just after 8 a.m. Saturday to the Inner Loop of the Baltimore Beltway at Perring Parkway in Parkville.
  • James Beckham, 31, of Essex, was taken to a hospital from the scene and was pronounced dead.
  • Dante Summers, 26, the driver of a Nissan Altima, was hospitalized with injuries while occupants of the other vehicles were not hurt.
  • A preliminary review indicates Beckham’s Nissan Sentra struck the corner of another car, setting off subsequent crashes involving a Nissan Altima and a Toyota RAV4.
  • All Inner Loop lanes reopened around 11:30 a.m. after an extended closure as troopers, county emergency crews and highway officials handled the scene, and the Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation.
