Overview
- A car drove through the side of the Lidl on Finchfield Hill on Friday, October 23, and a 39-year-old man, James Singh Jagpal, was pronounced dead at the scene.
- West Midlands Police have identified the driver as a woman in her seventies who was treated in hospital and has been released; she will be questioned in due course as inquiries continue.
- Officers have issued a public appeal for anyone driving in the area between 5pm and 6pm to come forward and for dashcam footage that may show the vehicle, with investigators especially interested in sightings of a blue Renault Zoe.
- Emergency teams attended rapidly after reports at 5.51pm, with West Midlands Fire Service dispatching four crews, staff and customers helping the casualty, and two other women taken to hospital and later discharged.
- Mr Jagpal’s family described him as kind and generous and asked for privacy while specially trained officers support them, and police say any footage could help determine the car’s route and speed as they work to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
