Man Killed After Argument on Midtown E Line Platform

Authorities have released surveillance images and are seeking public tips to find the suspect.

Overview

  • A dispute between two men on the northbound E platform at the 53rd Street–Seventh Avenue station turned to gunfire Saturday around 12:21 p.m., and the wounded man was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
  • The NYPD circulated surveillance photos and described the suspect as a man wearing a red tracksuit, black vest, black face mask and carrying a backpack, and officers said he fled the scene on foot.
  • No arrests have been made and investigators from Midtown North Precinct and Transit District 1 are still interviewing witnesses and reviewing video to determine where the shots were fired.
  • Police and the MTA cordoned the station and rerouted C, D and E service during the afternoon while evidence was collected and the scene was processed.
  • Officials recorded the killing as the seventh homicide on the city’s transit system this year, a rise from the same period last year, and the incident has renewed commuter concern and calls for stronger subway safety measures.
