Overview
- Local deputies and emergency crews responded to the 6000 block of County Road 108 SW in Rock Dell Township after a trench collapsed and a man in his 20s was trapped.
- The Stewartville and Rochester fire departments, Stewartville first responders, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Mayo One and Olmsted County deputies all took part in the rescue and recovery effort.
- Responders recovered the victim from the trench and he was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
- The victim’s name has not been released and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation into what caused the collapse.
- Officials have not said whether the trench was part of a worksite or who was present before the collapse and they expect to provide updates as the probe and any regulatory review continue.
