Man Impersonating Police Officer Arrested for Defrauding Elderly Woman
A 29-year-old suspect was detained in Düsseldorf for allegedly stealing €30,000 and valuables from an 89-year-old Berlin resident using a police impersonation scam.
- The suspect, believed to be part of a larger criminal group, posed as a police officer to deceive elderly victims.
- In February, the suspect and an accomplice convinced the victim they were investigating a theft affecting her and needed €30,000 to recover her stolen jewelry.
- The victim also handed over jewelry and a key to her bank safe deposit box to the fake officers, who claimed it was for 'safekeeping.'
- Authorities conducted searches in both Berlin and Düsseldorf, uncovering evidence including mobile phones and other data storage devices linked to the scam.
- The suspect was arrested under an existing warrant and will be transferred to Berlin as investigations into other potential perpetrators and cases continue.
