Man Identified in Brutal Osasco Attack on Elderly Pedestrian

Police identified the suspect as a previously convicted killer, searching for him under an attempted-homicide investigation.

Overview

  • A 78–79-year-old man walking with crutches was kicked and then stomped in the head on Rua Octalles Marcondes Ferreira in Osasco, an assault shown on security cameras from Friday, Oct. 30.
  • Video shows the attacker exiting a Volkswagen Polo, delivering a forceful kick that knocked the victim down and then stepping on the victim’s head until the victim appeared unconscious.
  • Investigators traced the vehicle to Denis Young Kim and visited his registered address but did not find him; neighbors told police he took belongings from the home and left.
  • The case was logged at Osasco’s 5th Police District as attempted homicide for a trivial motive and officials have opened medico-legal exams on the victim to gather evidence for criminal charges.
  • Kim was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to 14 years for a 2016 killing in São Paulo using a crossbow, a past verdict that raises public-safety concerns as authorities seek to locate and hold him to account.
