Man Held on Suspicion of Arson After Bournemouth International Centre Blaze

The blaze was brought under control in under an hour with firefighters remaining onsite to dampen down hotspots as police launch an arson inquiry.

Overview

  • The fire broke out at around 7:34 pm on August 4 on the external roof fascia of the empty Bournemouth International Centre.
  • Three crews from Springbourne, Westbourne and Redhill Park along with an aerial ladder platform from Westbourne extinguished the main blaze by 8:48 pm.
  • Nearby residents were instructed to close their doors and windows and a police cordon was set up to keep the area clear for emergency operations.
  • Police have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of arson following inquiries that treated the fire as suspicious.
  • Firefighters remained on site into the early hours of August 5 to dampen down hotspots while investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.
