Man Held After Doomadgee Crash That Killed Mother and Girl as Police Probe Possible Deliberate Act

Police are testing theories from domestic violence to a deliberate collision.

Overview

  • The 28-year-old, identified by police as the woman’s partner and the children’s father or stepfather, remains in custody and is being transported to Townsville with no charges laid.
  • The crash about 6:30 a.m. Friday near Doomadgee involved a white 2006 Toyota LandCruiser and a black 2011 Nissan Maxima, and the LandCruiser rolled, killing the 30-year-old driver and her 10-year-old daughter.
  • Three other children aged about 1, 3 and 4 were injured, with the three-year-old in critical condition in Townsville and the other two in stable condition.
  • Both vehicles have been impounded and moved to Mount Isa for forensic examination, and police released images of the wrecks while appealing for witnesses who saw the cars or their occupants before the crash.
  • Queensland Police have deployed specialist officers in Doomadgee, including forensic crash investigators and homicide unit staff, and say the inquiry will be methodical and comprehensive.
