Man Found Dead in RV Fire at West Oakland Encampment

Authorities are investigating the cause of the early morning fire that engulfed a recreational vehicle, killing one person inside.

The fire occurred early Monday morning at 34th and Wood streets in West Oakland, a location with a long row of encampments near the Amtrak fence line.
Firefighters responded to the scene around 3:20 a.m. and found the RV fully engulfed in flames.
After extinguishing the fire, crews discovered the body of a deceased man inside the vehicle.
The Oakland Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, and an arson probe has been opened.
The Oakland Police homicide unit and the Alameda County Coroner’s Office are also involved in the investigation, but the victim's identity has not yet been released.
