Man Found Dead After Santa Rosa Standoff Tied to Cloverdale Homicide

Authorities have not confirmed whether the deceased is suspect Lawrence Cassidy.

Overview

  • Deputies responded Saturday to a shooting on the 300 block of Cloverdale Heights Way, where a victim with a gunshot wound was pronounced dead.
  • The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office identified 56-year-old Lawrence Cassidy of Cloverdale as the suspect and said he drove away in a white Ford SUV later located in Healdsburg.
  • Officials said Cassidy was then driven from Healdsburg to a residence on the 1500 block of Brush Creek Road in Santa Rosa.
  • Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, SWAT, hostage negotiators and the bomb squad surrounded the home, removed two people safely, and reported shots fired from inside that may have struck an armored vehicle.
  • After chemical agents and repeated unanswered attempts to communicate, a drone and bomb-disposal robot were used before SWAT entered and found a man dead inside, and Petaluma police have taken over the investigation.
