Man Fatally Struck by Met Police Car in South London Identified as David Clark

The police watchdog is conducting an early-stage inquiry after reviewing CCTV and body-worn footage.

Overview

  • David Clark, 35, an Australian national living in Scunthorpe, was hit shortly after 12:30am on January 7 at Borough High Street near the Great Suffolk Street/Trinity Street junction.
  • The IOPC says two marked Metropolitan Police vehicles were traveling south to an emergency with sirens and lights on when the lead car collided with Clark as he appeared to be crossing.
  • Drivers from both vehicles stopped and provided first aid before paramedics arrived, but Clark was declared dead at the scene.
  • Investigators have obtained and reviewed CCTV and officers’ body-worn video and are continuing local CCTV inquiries this week.
  • The officers are being treated as witnesses as a post-mortem has been completed, an inquest date is awaited, and Clark’s family has requested privacy.
