Overview
- On July 11 at about 4:04 p.m., an unidentified man was struck in the abdomen on the 6200 block of South Rhodes Avenue in Woodlawn and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
- Authorities initially listed the Woodlawn victim in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center before ABC7 Chicago reported his death early July 12.
- Just before 9:30 p.m. the same night, a 40-year-old man in a parked car on the 500 block of West Scott Street in Old Town was shot in the leg and groin by a suspect fleeing on a scooter.
- No arrests have been made in either case and investigators are canvassing the neighborhoods for witnesses and surveillance footage.
- The back-to-back shootings highlight Chicago’s ongoing struggle to reduce gun violence and address low clearance rates for firearm crimes.
