Man Drowns at Moore River as Six Others Are Hospitalised During Holiday Outing

Authorities will prepare a coroner's report to examine the incident at the popular river mouth.

Overview

  • A group of three adults and four children on a sandbank entered the water when a 38-year-old man slipped into a deeper channel and disappeared underwater.
  • Bystanders pulled all seven from the river and began CPR before paramedics arrived and used a defibrillator, but the man died at the scene.
  • Six survivors, including four children, were taken to hospital, with a 13-year-old recovering at Joondalup Health Campus and a woman in her 30s in a stable condition at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
  • Three children under 10 and a man in his 40s were also transported to Joondalup and were discharged later the same day, according to the latest updates.
  • Five St John Ambulance crews and other emergency services responded to the river mouth near Guilderton Holiday Park around 10:45am local time, and police say a report will go to the coroner.
