Investigation Underway as Controlled Explosion Carried Out by Irish Army’s EOD Unit

  • The explosion occurred at a Support Temporary Accommodation building operated by Depaul Ireland on Little Britain Street.
  • Emergency services, including the Irish army’s explosives ordnance disposal (EOD) unit, attended the scene and a controlled explosion was carried out as part of the post-blast analysis.
  • No other injuries have been reported and residents of the building have been evacuated, with Depaul working to ensure nobody would be left without accommodation.
  • The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the Garda Technical Bureau, with a post-mortem examination due to be carried out by the State Pathologist.
