Man Dies in Berkeley Unit Fire After Off-Duty Firefighter’s Rescue Attempt

Investigators have established a crime scene, with no suspicious signs at this stage.

Overview

  • The blaze broke out on Kelly Street in Berkeley around 9:25am, drawing crews from Dapto, Wollongong, Warrawong and Albion Park.
  • Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes before locating a man inside who could not be revived by paramedics.
  • The deceased is believed to be the unit’s owner and is thought to be in his 40s.
