Overview

• Deputies responded on Oct. 12 to the 400 block of Louisiana Avenue in Bacliff for a reported dog attack.
• Witnesses reported the man's two pit bulls were actively attacking him in the yard.
• One dog was latched onto the victim’s arm when a deputy fired, striking the animal and ending the mauling.
• The victim was transported to HCA Clear Lake with CPR in progress and was later pronounced dead.
• Major Crimes and Crime Scene units are conducting a preliminary investigation, both dogs are in animal-control custody, and the victim’s identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
