Man Dies After Brief Police Struggle at Mattapan Treatment Facility

The Suffolk DA is reviewing the case following a councilor’s call to release body-camera video.

Overview

  • Officers were called just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 11 to Bay Cove Human Services at 669 Walk Hill St. for reports that a man was acting erratically during a suspected cocaine overdose.
  • A brief struggle occurred when officers made contact, and the man was detained, according to a redacted Boston Police report.
  • He was transported by paramedics to Boston Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m.
  • The victim’s name and age have not been released, and it was not immediately clear whether an autopsy has been conducted.
  • Bay Cove declined comment citing privacy laws, the DA’s office did not immediately respond to questions, and Councilor Brian Worrell urged release of body-camera footage and voiced support for the DA’s investigation.
