Man Dies After A167 Pedestrian Collision in Croxdale as Air Ambulance Called to Separate Consett Crash

Durham Police seek witnesses in the Croxdale case following confirmation of the death.

Overview

  • The 26-year-old pedestrian was struck just after 2am on August 24 on the A167 between the Honest Lawyer and Cock O' the North roundabouts and later died in hospital.
  • North East Ambulance Service sent a clinical team leader, an ambulance crew and a specialist paramedic, transporting the patient to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary in critical condition.
  • The driver of the Citroën C1 involved in the Croxdale collision was reported uninjured, and the A167 was closed for several hours before reopening.
  • Police are appealing for information and ask witnesses to email sciu@durham.police.uk quoting incident number 38 of August 24.
  • In a separate incident around 1:55pm the same day, a motorbike and a car collided at the A691 and Elmfield Road junction in Consett, where an off-duty nurse assisted and one man was taken by road with a pre-alert to University Hospital of North Durham after air-ambulance attendance.
