Overview

• Ajit Ramkrishna Maindargi, 39, was intercepted Wednesday afternoon at the Varsha bungalow in Malabar Hill after security personnel refused him entry.
• Police seized about 100 ml of petrol and a lighter from Maindargi when he threatened to ignite himself outside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s residence.
• Mumbai police acted on prior intelligence received from Solapur’s Chawdi station to monitor Maindargi and preempt the self-immolation attempt.
• An FIR was registered under Sections 121, 125 and 226 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Malabar Hill police station before he was served a notice.
• Maindargi was released after receiving the notice and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances and motive behind his action.
