Overview
- Law enforcement says deputies entered a Loxahatchee home and found a woman dead with apparent gunshot wounds after four people reported that Todd Wegrich had called or texted them claiming he had killed her on Sept. 4.
- Violent Crimes detectives tracked Wegrich to The Ben Hotel in downtown West Palm Beach and located his vehicle and hotel registration in a nearby garage.
- Officers spent hours on the phone trying to persuade Wegrich to surrender while he refused and said he might harm himself or force law enforcement to use force.
- Police say SWAT teams attempted to enter his room, that Wegrich fired multiple rounds, and that officers deployed gas before taking him into custody with no injuries to officers or the suspect.
- Investigators say Wegrich gave a confession at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division and was booked on a first-degree murder charge while authorities continue the homicide investigation and expect additional charges.
