Overview
- Counter Terrorism Policing and the Crown Prosecution Service authorised one count of preparation of terrorist acts against 28-year-old Joshua Kerry on Friday, alleging conduct between 31 May 2024 and 8 July 2026.
- Kerry is already charged with the July murder of former MP and Reform UK spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe, who prosecutors say was fatally struck with a hammer at her Devon home.
- CTP described the work that led to the fresh charge as a "hugely intensive and complex investigation" that used multiple lines of enquiry and forensic analysis.
- Kerry is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 7 October in relation to the terrorism charge and the wider police inquiry remains active and ongoing.
- Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood called the development "extremely concerning," Reform UK has increased protections for its MPs, and the case adds to wider debate about how Britain secures public figures after recent killings of politicians.
