Man Charged with Rape and Murder of Montserrat Martorell in Londonderry

Ciaran Murray, 28, faces multiple charges including arson after the brutal attack on the 65-year-old woman.

Ciaran Murray appeared via video link at Bishop Street courthouse from Musgrave Street police station.
He confirmed his date of birth and address, and acknowledged understanding the charges.
The victim, Montserrat Martorell, sustained multiple injuries in a horrific attack.
Her body was found in a burning flat in Derry city centre early Saturday.
Murray has been remanded in custody with the next court appearance scheduled for September 26.
