Man Charged with Murder After East Ham Shooting

Police say the charge lets prosecutors advance the case as investigators continue to seek witnesses and footage to clarify movements around St Bartholomew’s Road.

Overview

  • The Metropolitan Police charged 40-year-old Sergiu Leahu on Monday with the murder of 42-year-old Masum Miah and he is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court.
  • Officers found Mr Miah with gunshot wounds in a car on St Bartholomew’s Road at about 3am on 18 August and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Police describe the suspect as of no fixed address and say the court appearance is an initial procedural step while investigators continue their enquiries.
  • Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten has appealed for anyone with dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage to come forward and is specifically asking about sightings of a black Nissan Duke in the area.
  • The scene was cordoned and examined with an evidence tent set up near a reported collision, Mr Miah’s family are being supported by specialist officers, and police say further forensic work and witness accounts remain key to the investigation.
