Man Charged With Multiple Felonies After Highway 81 Arrest Near Minto

Authorities report a taser malfunction preceded a struggle that led to felony charges.

Overview

  • Dispatchers received reports of a man lying in traffic and jumping toward vehicles on Highway 81 north of Minto shortly before 3 p.m., according to radio traffic cited by KFGO.
  • Deputies identified the man as 39-year-old Andrew Mattson of St. Thomas and said he was walking in heavy traffic and then ran toward a deputy after being ordered to stop.
  • The deputy’s taser reportedly failed during the encounter, and Mattson was taken to the ground, resisted, and was handcuffed before transport for medical clearance.

  • Mattson was booked on multiple counts including domestic violence aggravated assault, two counts of terrorizing, reckless endangerment, assault on a peace officer, unlawful entry into a vehicle, and preventing arrest, and the deputy’s name has not been released.
