Overview
- On July 14 at around 6:10 a.m., 20-year-old Geovalny Alcantara allegedly stabbed a sleeping 56-year-old passenger at least three times in the head aboard a southbound No. 1 train near Harlem’s 145th Street station
- Officers from Transit District 3 intervened immediately, disarming Alcantara and taking him into custody on the train
- The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital and remains in stable condition with puncture wounds to the back of his head
- Three days before the subway attack, Alcantara was arrested in the Bronx for slashing his mother’s arm, raising questions about repeat violent behavior
- He was arraigned on July 15 on attempted murder and assault charges and held on $50,000 bail while prosecutors prepare for trial
