Man Charged Over Two Alleged Kensington Palace Intrusions as Attorney General’s Consent Sought

A judge scheduled a January 6 plea hearing to proceed in the defendant’s absence following disorderly conduct.

Overview

  • Derek Egan, 39, was charged with trespassing on a protected site and breaching bail over incidents on December 21 and 23 at Palace Green, Kensington.
  • The Crown Prosecution Service says the case requires the attorney general’s consent because of national security considerations relating to the royal family.
  • Egan was remanded after declining to leave a prison van for an earlier appearance and disrupting proceedings at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
  • Court reporting says Egan admitted the charges, and the judge refused bail, noting a custodial sentence is a real possibility if he is convicted.
  • It is reported the intruder was detained on the public side of the grounds and did not enter the main building, and the Waleses were not thought to be in residence.
