Man Charged Over Drug Gathering Linked to Former Lawyer M. Ravi’s Death

A joint probe by police with the CNB will go to the State Coroner after laboratory results.

Overview

  • Shawn Loo Zhi Jian, 40, was charged on Dec 26 with arranging a gathering to consume methamphetamine at an Upper Boon Keng Road flat in the early hours of Dec 24.
  • The offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the cane.
  • CNB said Loo’s instant urine test was positive for a controlled drug, with samples sent to the Health Sciences Authority for confirmatory analysis, and officers seized drug-related items from the flat.
  • CNB’s follow-up probe indicated he may have disposed of drugs before officers arrived, and the matter was referred to police for a possible perverting-the-course-of-justice offence.
  • Prosecutors sought a one-week adjournment for test results and security camera footage, with the case to return to court on Jan 2 as investigations continue toward submission of findings to the State Coroner.
