Overview

• Emergency services were called about 4.25am Thursday to Wangara Street, where police forced entry and pulled two men from a house on fire.
• Officers reported a damaged vehicle out front and another alight in the garage as firefighters extinguished the blaze and paramedics assessed police at the scene.
• Police allege a 45-year-old man was detaining a 35-year-old inside the burning home, with the younger man taken to Westmead Hospital for facial injuries.
• The 45-year-old was treated at Westmead for burns to his back and transferred to Concord Hospital under police guard before being charged with detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage and cause actual bodily harm, damaging property by fire, and damaging property.
• He was refused bail at a bedside hearing and is listed to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Monday, 8 September, as inquiries and the crime scene examination continue; on-scene images showed a Jeep with a smashed windscreen and a dog tied to a truck.
