Man Charged in St. Olaf Player’s Killing After Alleged Gun Robbery in South St. Paul

The 19-year-old suspect remains jailed on $400,000 bail pending a Sept. 25 court appearance.

Overview

  • Prosecutors charged Terrell Anthony Ranzy, 19, with second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter and illegal firearm possession in Dakota County District Court.
  • The criminal complaint says gunfire erupted in a cramped upstairs bedroom after an attempt to rob Ranzy of his gun during a late-night gathering.
  • Investigators recovered 14 spent casings, including 9mm and .40 caliber, and witnesses reported both guns were fired after Ranzy first shot into the ceiling.
  • Matthew Lee, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene and was described by a witness as an innocent bystander, while Keith Woodson Cox, 20, suffered gunshot wounds to his torso and arm.
  • Police say Ranzy fled the home, prompted a brief shelter-in-place, and was found hiding in a nearby shed; court records note he is barred from possessing firearms due to a 2024 conviction.
