Man Charged in Grangetown Violence Investigation

Police extended Section 60 stop-and-search powers to reassure residents.

Overview

  • Police charged a 32-year-old man with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, possession of a bladed article and possession of a class A drug, with a court appearance due Monday.
  • Four arrests have now been made in connection with the Richmond Court inquiry, including a 27-year-old held on suspicion of section 18 GBH, arson, criminal damage and possession of a firearm with intent, and a woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
  • Officers imposed a Section 60 order from Friday evening and extended it for a further 24 hours on Saturday, covering Richmond Court, Birchington Avenue, Arundel Road, Somerset Road, Griffiths Road and Kingsley Road with enhanced stop-and-search powers including removal of face coverings.
  • The October 16 incidents included a shot fired at a car with no injuries reported, a Volvo SUV driven into a house, a vehicle set alight, criminal damage and an assault that seriously injured a 43-year-old man’s arm.
  • Police state the Richmond Court crimes were targeted at specific individuals, and a separate Birchington Avenue case led to the arrest of a 16-year-old on suspicion of a racially aggravated attack, with the affected family safeguarded.
