Man Charged in Fatal Barnes & Noble Stabbing Held Without Bond in Florida

Police describe an apparently unprovoked stabbing that the suspect admitted in an interview.

Overview

  • Rita B. Loncharich, 65, was stabbed inside the Barnes & Noble at Legacy Place on Dec. 22 and died during surgery at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
  • Police say witnesses and in-store surveillance led officers to Antonio Roderick Moore, 40, who was found about 1,500 feet from the store and arrested without incident.
  • According to the affidavit, Moore said he had no prior contact with the victim, cited an 'internal buildup' and a fight-or-flight response, and selected the nearest person.
  • Court records show Moore is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, is detained without bond, and has been appointed a public defender by Judge Donald Hafele.
  • Barnes & Noble declined to comment on the investigation, while Legacy Place said it is working with police and increasing on-site security.
