Man Arrested on Suspicion of Arson After Fire at BP Station in Lee-on-the-Solent

Investigators are reviewing witness accounts alongside video following a rapid fire service response.

  • Police say the blaze began around 11:15 a.m. on December 4 at the BP petrol station on Broom Way, spreading to vehicles and a fuel pump stand.
  • A man found with burns was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
  • Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews from Gosport, Fareham and Cosham extinguished the fire using two main jets.
  • Officers reported no other injuries, and a road closure put in place during the response was lifted after the incident was declared finished by midday.
