Man Arrested for Posing as UP SOG Constable to Exploit Women

Authorities have filed charges against him under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

  • Tyagi stole a UP Police SOG constable’s uniform in 2019 and used it to impersonate an officer under multiple aliases tailored to victims’ religious backgrounds.
  • Over three years he established romantic relationships with roughly 18 to 20 women—primarily widows and single women—and admitted to sexually exploiting 10 of them.
  • He targeted women via social media, extorting approximately ₹2.75 lakh and jewellery worth ₹3 lakh from a victim who reported him in Muzaffarnagar.
  • Police arrested him on July 1 in Muzaffarnagar and seized the fake uniform along with objectionable photographs and videos of multiple women.
  • A case has been registered under sections 316, 351, 204, 205 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigators are probing additional victims and potential accomplices.
