Overview
- Edward Vargas, 32, was arrested at around 11 a.m. Thursday in Queens and charged with two counts of assault.
- The attack occurred last Friday on a southbound M train between the 36th Street and Court Square–23rd Street stations.
- Vargas allegedly pepper-sprayed a 25-year-old woman and her 11-month-old daughter after the woman declined his request to use her cellphone.
- The victims experienced eye irritation and breathing difficulties and were treated at Mount Sinai Queens before being released.
- He is in NYPD custody at Transit District 20 in Queens awaiting further legal proceedings.
