Man Arrested After Stolen 24-Tonne Earthmover Driven Through Wolverhampton

Police say a 41-year-old remains in custody on suspicion of multiple offences.

  • West Midlands Police were alerted shortly before 5:40pm on November 8 to reports that the earthmover had been stolen from an address in Staffordshire.
  • The vehicle travelled through Wolverhampton city centre via Bridgnorth Road, Compton Road West and the A4150, damaging road surfaces and street furniture.
  • The journey lasted about two and a half hours before the machine stopped on New Road in Willenhall at 8:15pm.
  • Eyewitness video shows the earthmover pushing through a Royal Mail lorry positioned across Willenhall Road as onlookers filmed and officers attempted to intervene.
  • A man, aged 41, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, threat to damage or destroy property, theft, failure to stop, taking a conveyance without consent and using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour, and he remains in custody as enquiries continue.
