Overview

• Michigan State Police say a man ripped keys from an 87-year-old shopper and stole her car just before 1 p.m. on Oct. 5 at a Dollar Tree off West 8 Mile Road in Royal Oak Township.
• Witnesses tried to block the vehicle and later located the car in a parking lot near the 10000 block of Pasadena Avenue in Detroit.
• Troopers reviewed surveillance showing the suspect entering a nearby apartment, then interviewed occupants to pinpoint his location.
• Investigators arrested the suspect without incident at a relative's residence in Detroit, and he is to be lodged in the Oakland County jail pending prosecutor review.
• F/Lt. Mike Shaw credited community cooperation with helping troopers make the arrest, and officials have not released the suspect’s name as charges remain pending.
