Overview

• Emergency services were called shortly before 8pm to a house in the Heathfield estate in the Cappagh area of Finglas, north Dublin.
• The deceased are an adult male and a young girl believed to be a parent and child, with the child possibly as young as six.
• The scene has been preserved for the Garda Technical Bureau, the Coroner has been notified, the State Pathologist has been requested, and post-mortems will be arranged.
• Investigators say they are keeping an open mind and report no indication at this stage of a break-in or third-party involvement.
• Gardaí will establish an incident room under a senior investigating officer and appoint a family liaison officer, and some reporting suggests detectives are not seeking anyone else though officials have not confirmed a murder-suicide.
