Man and Baby Die in Early-Morning São Paulo Apartment Fire

Overhaul operations continue at the scene pending identification of the victims.

  • A third-floor apartment in Vila Prudente, in eastern São Paulo, caught fire early Monday, January 12.
  • Around 5 a.m., ten fire department vehicles and SAMU ambulances responded, and crews extinguished the blaze.
  • The Fire Department reported a large volume of combustible material burning inside the unit.
  • One victim, a man, was found carbonized, and both victims remain unidentified.
  • Nearby streets were blocked to support the response as firefighters conducted rescaldo, or overhaul, at the site.
