Man Accused of Living in Condo Crawl Space Held on $75,000 Bail in Oregon

Deputies found a furnished, electrified hideaway with drug paraphernalia that tested positive for meth.

Overview

  • Deputies responded just before 11 p.m. on Sept. 3 to a condominium complex near Happy Valley after a witness reported a man parking and heading behind a building as light glowed from a crawl space.
  • Arriving officers found the crawl space door damaged and locked with an extension cord running through a vent, and they breached the door after the homeowner’s keys did not work.
  • Inside, they discovered a setup with a bed, lights, TVs, chargers and other electronics drawing power from the unit above, and investigators said the occupant appeared to have lived there for an extended period.
  • A pipe with white residue recovered from the space tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office.
  • Beniamin Bucur, 40, was arrested, booked into the Clackamas County Jail on first-degree burglary and unlawful possession of methamphetamine, and had bail set at $75,000 at a Sept. 4 hearing as the investigation continues with a request for tips.
